As someone who has never developed a game port for mainstream consoles (or a game in general), what is usually the appeal to port for consoles? I know Nintendo Switch is a platform many indies end on and I can see the potential benefit there, but why Playstation and Xbox if you have a PC?
@leroy There is a very strong argument for Fidelity being in direct opposition to Versatility.
The higher your game's fidelity, be it in textures, animations, models, UI, sound effects, voice lines, cutscenes, and so on, the more work it takes to make new assets.
And the more work it takes to make new assets, the more you are limited in adding new gameplay mechanics, new locations, and more scenes.
The lower you make the fidelity of your assets, the more room you have to go wild.

[P] Basically? If you want customers who'll support you taking more time to make shorter content, and those who'd really enjoy your art? Choose a neurodiverse demographic. We won't buzz through like a naaty swarm of wasps or locusts, leaving destruction in our wake, demanding more. We'll stroll through and gawk at the lovely things you've made, and spend days talking about your tales. Sadly—as I said—I know sociopathic CEOs don't favour us, and that stinks.

[P] This isn't a one-and-done thing, either. I'll ger distracted by the art every time, so I'd be understanding of everyone else that felt that way. Sadly, there's no way for an asocial second-class citizen like me to find a neurodiverse dungeon, so before NPCs were added I just ignored dungeons until I was over-levelled. And I still have so much to do in WoW's Dragonflight expansion! I'm not nearly done, because I'm taking my time to appreciate all of it.

[P] I really love NPC dungeons in WoW, not just because I'm asocial, but because the dungeon-finder doesn't have a "Neurodiverse Party Only, Please" checkbox. So I'm paired with bum-rushing, locuat-like neuronormatives who thrash through like the annoying, buzzy hive creatures they are. I'm not allowed to stop and appreciate the artistry on show. Whereas NPC followers are very amicable about that. So I can look around to my heart's content.
