Germander speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys, Gamander-Ehrenpreis) is a low-growing perennial native to Europe and parts of Asia. It features bright blue, four-petaled flowers with white centers that bloom from April to July. Found in meadows, woodland edges, and grasslands, it prefers well-drained soils and light shade.
Ecologically, it supports a range of pollinators especially solitary bees, hoverflies, and butterflies early in the season. Its dense growth helps stabilize soil, suppress weeds, and improve ground cover. As part of species-rich meadows, it contributes to plant diversity and serves as a habitat for invertebrates.
Often seen in low-intensity, semi-natural landscapes, it can indicate stable, healthy ecosystems. Once used in folk medicine and symbolically linked to fidelity, Veronica chamaedrys remains valuable for both biodiversity and beauty.

@randynose the #cat #gamander arrived and has it's place in the #garden already. At first #Mimiko was sniffing curiously just to run away from it. 🤔🤣

So, it didn't went as planned but the plant will stay of course. It attracts insects with it's flowers and it looks quite cute. Maybe the tartaric #honeysuckle will be better for her? I'll keep you informed.
