Germander speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys, Gamander-Ehrenpreis) is a low-growing perennial native to Europe and parts of Asia. It features bright blue, four-petaled flowers with white centers that bloom from April to July. Found in meadows, woodland edges, and grasslands, it prefers well-drained soils and light shade.
Ecologically, it supports a range of pollinators especially solitary bees, hoverflies, and butterflies early in the season. Its dense growth helps stabilize soil, suppress weeds, and improve ground cover. As part of species-rich meadows, it contributes to plant diversity and serves as a habitat for invertebrates.
