Lobby the govt to keep NUUP access to Free Software users

I think we should lobby the govt to keep NUUP (https://wiki.fsci.in/NUUP *99# USSD interface to UPI) and extend it to all cities and providers or it might get silently dropped one day.This is currently the best option for Free Software, when it works (the biggest drawback is its limited support - Airtel in some select cities only).Even if LibreFin manages to finish the reverse engineering effort, like NewPipe breaking often when Youtube changing its API.We can try to work with other organizations and communities like LibreFin, FOSS United and SFLC.in.

Reorienting the Free Software message to developers

It is also a conceptual / cultural change in the current way Free Software / Open Source is being looked at by most developers - they want to learn a new language or work only on projects in their favorite languages. Often they forget even if they have a favorite programming language, they cannot always expect all software they use will be in that language. So even if you are a developer, you still need to collectively able to modify other software - especially the core components that you use every days like your messaging app, web browser, email client or web browser. Who all agree with me on this assessment ?If you agree we need to focus on the features /user experience rather than the technology in Free Software projects, we need lots of work to do. So when one software is missing features, we should try to fix that rather than trying to create another half features one in our favorite programming language. This would also need fund raising and hiring developers - we don't have to think only from our own individual skill and time. There are also organizations like FOSS United and NLNet who can provide grants. But we still need to prioritize features we want and find developers who can dedicate time. prav and dephcom are trying this approach, but it can succeed only of more people understand this perspective, agree with it and help spread the message.

Interesting post around #AWS and #AGPL looking at #ElasticSearch vs #OpenSearch

Would you volunteer to organize a national #FreeSoftware conference in India?

Many of us in #FSCI who attended #IndiaFOSS or looked at the accepted vs rejected talks felt the focus is more on Open Source / products rather than philosophy or communities. So we want to organize something that is explicitly focused on Free Software and communities.

I still appreciate @fossunited for organizing it as I think booths are still a great opportunity for projects like @prav

Many of us in #FSCI who avoid UPI apps, learned today that, we can send money to people using just phone number and bankname option of #IMPS. Or you need Account number and IFSC. In many situations, where people only accept UPI, this could open up another easier option. It is not as smooth as UPI, but could still work as people don't need to remember / share account details, they would still know their phone number and bank name already.
We have tips like this in https://wiki.fsci.in/UPI
UPI - FSCI Wiki

Our hosting bill for https://poddery.com this month was 3492 INR (36.8 EUR). We provide #XMPP and #Matrix services to public.

It is run by volunteers of Free Software Community of India #fsci

@bady @kannan @sahil @ravi and many more.

Its costs are met through donations. So please consider donating or volunteering today. There is also non technical tasks like fund raising. See https://fsci.in/donate

If you are outside India buying us #Hetzner credits would be better.

Any web developers out there who can build a web app for diasp.in and poddery.com to create users like how #diaspora did? Since we are shutting down diaspora, we want to just keep the user management part of it. As prosody is configured with a plugin to authenticate against diaspora users table in the database.

Details here https://gitlab.com/piratemovin/diasp.in/-/issues/96 Volunteers preferred, but we could also possibly raise some funds to pay someone.
