@swansinflight @offby1 I managed to join #freenode_#mastodon:matrix.org in libera.chat (apparently) using element on mtrx.nz. If I understand everything correctly. Nothing happening the yet, though (no past messages as they're encrypted)...

@offby1 you might have better luck looking for a 'place' that's compatible with Fediverse values (i.e. open, decentralised, and non-exclusionary). Neither Slack nor Discord fit those values.

I see there's a matrix (which is compatible!) channel #freenode_#mastodon:matrix.org presumably bridged from IRC, which might be what you're after.

Fwiw, I'm a long-time Mastodon admin (just setting up my 4th instance as I type) but I haven't joined any messaging groups related to ops.

@Sandra Thanks for the link. It's something I might look into.

To answer your question: Yes, the joining of rooms across instances is what makes it 'federation'--like our two ActivityPub services are doing now. I have joined a few Freenode channels (i.e. joining #freenode_#[email protected]), and the experience is sub-par, mostly because of nickserv, netsplits, etc--good ol' IRC. :P

Each room can be configured to varying degrees of access from others.

Ansonsten geben Sie dort noch die eMail [email protected] an.

Und den Mastodon Account @pixelfed hast du ja schon. ☺️

In der Doku ist dann noch versteckt:

IRC: #pixelfed on irc.freenode.net (#freenode_#pixelfed:matrix.org through Matrix)

Vieleicht hilft einer davon weiter.

Here are some rooms you can join from the QOTO matrix server that have 100 or more users in it that I particularly enjoy:

#freenode_##agi:matrix.org

##cs:matrix.org

#physics:matrix.org

#Syncleus_aparapi:gitter.im

#Europe:matrix.org

#Nederland:matrix.org

#Occultism:matrix.org

#QOTO @QOTO #matrix #chat #federation #decentralized

Pro tip:

If you're using #Matrix and don't want to give up #IRC, you can join any freenode channel via matrix.org:

#freenode_#somechannel:matrix.org

@somnius @neauoire @tehn
and alternatively, you can access the freenode channel from your Matrix client (e.g. Element) by connecting to #freenode_#merveilles:matrix.org

If you wish to change your username and/or nickserv pass, message @appservice-irc.matrix.org -- those on other synapse instances (matrix servers) having difficulties should ask their administrator to federate with matrix.org or bridge to the desired irc server themselves.

@alchemistswater

Linux.Pizza used to have an pretty active dedicated room for just linux.pizza, but since we closed our matrix-server in september (due to lack of time and funding) it kinda has died off.

But if you are on matrix (or freenode), you can consider to join the GNU-Group (bridged to Matrix<>IRC<>Telegram)

#freenode_##gnugroup:matrix.org

Or on ##gnugroup on freenode

Are you on Matrix? IRC? If so, join our chat!
