#foodtoot I screwed up making salt and pepper zucchini by confusing "cut crosswise into threes" with "cut lengthwise into threes." Even so, the recipe is odd to me.

One, you deep-fry the zucchini pieces after dipping them in beaten egg, then covering them in panko. Shouldn't there be flour before the egg?

Two, the zucchini's full of water. When making zucchini pancakes, I had to grate it, then squeeze out like 1/2 cup of juice. Here, I couldn't keep the panko stuck to the zucchini pieces.

#foodtoot It doesn't get much Dutcher than this: white asparagus with hard-boiled, mashed egg and boiled potatoes, covered with what would have been a hollandaise sauce, if I'd taken more time for it.

It wasn't bad, but it did make me realize yet again that I'm not a big fan of Dutch cuisine.

#foodtoot Somehow I think this dish would not have been as popular during the Cold War. Whole roast cauliflower. Just drizzle oil over it, scatter over some salt, and chuck it in the oven at 190C (375F) for an hour and a half. I made a sauce with butter, oil, parsley, garlic, anchovies and toasted blanched almonds to go with this, and served it with mashed potatoes.
