Access to and use of public sector documents and public speeches – new policy paper

Despite the importance of public sector documents as well as public speeches, they are not necessarily publicly available as they can be protected under copyright and hidden behind paywalls. Where this is the case, access to, and use of, these materials can be difficult or prohibitively expensive. This paper addresses many areas where existing European legislation, notably the Open Data Directive, falls short, and presents European-level policy options to remove copyright barriers and ensure that this information can be used for the common good.

Why don’t we just point Google Lens (or even better, another company’s like Apple or even a world association version) directly at the output of #AI content being generated on all public consumer interfaces. And it can inform us exactly what we are looking at so that humans can make their own choices.

The system should have a public API so that people can easily electronically lodge as much of their original content in it as they like, with the earliest timestamp in record. #fediverse

Wired.com: #Spotify Is Screwed
Spotify is the worldspotifyest music streamer but rarely turns a profit and just cut 17 percent of its workforce. Its business model looks increasingly precarious.

https://www.wired.com/story/spotify-layoffs-music-streaming-future/

The article gets it mostly right, until the last paragraph. 10$/€ to access most of the music ever released isn't too cheap, the monopoly that rightsholders - due to a very lopsided power imbalance usually labels, not artists - have is too strong.
