Best wishes for everyone running in the @fedora elections this cycle, and thanks to everyone stepping down for their service!

Of note to anyone concerned about #GenAI, there is an explicit question about it in the Engineering Steering Committee (#FESCo) interview courtesy of @decathorpe so you can find out where candidates stand on this issue

The Fedora Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo) is the community elected body in charge of approving what changes make it to Fedora, be they self-contained or not.

When you hear about a change proposal, these are the folks who will vote on the proposal.

As noted in my election interview - https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fesco-elections-interview-with-michel-lind-salimma-2/ - I will try to be more of a voice for caution when I feel things are being rushed through, at the same time I will try to work on reducing policy and technical barriers preventing people from effectively contributing to the project.

Contributors, thank you for your votes, and fellow #FESCo members, congratulations on your re-elections!

@fale @rust @fedora @debian @fosdem yeah I think I saw you a couple of rows ahead

Wearing my #FESCo hat I'll reject any proposal to make it default now too - and I'm the one maintaining it 😅. It probably is not far off though. I'm curious how #Debian would do it if they switch first, especially if there is a hotfix you need and it involves updating dependencies. In Fedora we allow crate-only packages to bypass the stable updates policy so that's less of an issue

If you want to join FESCo, nominations are open right now!

Serving on the @fedora Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo) has been an incredible experience. I'm so thankful for everyone who supported me (and put up with me) along the way. ♥️

I'm stepping out of the way to take a break and opening the door for some new voices and perspectives!

Sees that someone has put forth a request to change the default desktop in #Fedora to #kde.

Can already guess how this discussion will go — both camps digging in their heels and spending all their time arguing instead of actually working on improving Fedora. Also, I really question the decision of announcing it on April 1st (seem like a definite troll move).

Anyway, I'm *really* glad I'm not on #FESCO any longer.
