Happy Lithuanian Independence Day!
In 1918, when the Russian Empire was fighting Germany in World War I, the Lithuanians had a chance to rebuild their country, which had been around since the Middle Ages. On February 16 of that same year, the Act of Independence of Lithuania was signed. Although it was not easy to defend the newly created state, it managed to survive for 22 years until the Soviet occupation in 1940.
