Welp, here we are in the midst of the shitzkrieg™ fast-fascism takeover/destruction of America, and wouldn't ya know we don't have any perfect tools for resistance.
Use what works, even if it's not ideal, while we wait/work for better tools.
#Mastodon (and the larger #fediverse) isn't perfect by any means, but it's much better than corporate social media. If you can convince a person to move, that's good.
#bluesky is a bit problematic now, and its structure makes it capturable by a billionaire, a corporation, or even government, but it's not yet corporate or captured. It's better than FB, Twitter, etc. The campaigns to move people off twitter/meta to bsky seem like they will do a decent amount of good.
#signal isn't perfect, but it is easier to use and better known than "more perfect" solutions. Anyone you can shift to signal is a person more secure and contributing less to corporate solutions.
#DirectAction is awesome, far better than my #slacktivism, but even pointing out problems is better than being silent. I'm deeply guilty of not doing enough actual resisting, but I also wish with every bone in my body that my conservative friends/family (and even the non-conservative ones too timid to say anything publicly) would just fucking say something. In public, on FB or insta or whatever. More voices would help.
If you think I'm wrong about this "perfect = enemy of good" approach, I'm open to alternative ideas. Right now this makes sense to me.
