Angst essen Seele auf (Rainer Maria Fasssbinder, 1974) Shocking and touching. #Fassbinder created an incredibly humane critique of the cruel effects of xenofobia. The humiliation of the unlikely lovers seems constant, although Fassbinder is too good of a storyteller to leave it at that. As always beautifully filmed, adding surrealist touches and some wicked sense of humour (eating at Hitler's favourite restaurant.) #cinemastodon #film

A ★★★★ review of Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974)

Surgical and devastating. Fassbinder, the empathic outsider, again observes human relations in all their ugly and beautiful truths. Hard to watch at times, although Fassbinder cleverly moves away from certain expectations. A very brave film, then and now.

#IllanKlassikko löytyi taas #Yle'n #Areena'sta, missä se on katsottavissa vielä lokakuulle. *Vahva suositus*. Elokuva ei ole #Fassbinder'in tunnetuimpia mutta on pieni helmi, joka kasvaa syvällisyydessä ja tehossa koko kestonsa ajan. Sävyltään se on kuin olisi oikeasti kuvattu kuvaamanaan aikana ja sanoo kaiken puolihuomaamatta, ei ääneen. Upea elokuva.
