FAccT23 may be gone, but the memories are still fresh in my mind! This felt like my tribe! So I wrote about it 😜#FAccT23 http://www.shirandudy.com/post/random-highlights-in-facct-2023
Random Highlights at FAccT 2023

tl;dr It has been a while but for those who didn't attend (and those who did) I am sharing some of my of my experience at FAccT 2023. THE END My longer version is that.. FAccT this year took place in Chicago (now more than two months ago), and aside from bits of rain and wind (after all it’s the Wind City), Chicago felt like a great choice. I had the BEST and my first Korean BBQ experience (!) thanks to great people I met at the end of the conference The talks and the people made this conference

Very happy that our (with Paola Lopez) paper "Rethinking Transparency as a Communicative Constellation" is now published in the #FAccT23 proceedings: https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3593013.3594010. If you're at the conference: Paola will present the paper in today's Transparency session!

LISTEN. Tech bros and AI doomers need to stop writing bad faith 'AI will kill us all unless we create a new international regulatory agency (that we control)' letters and instead, go read all of the #FAccT23 papers.

#Ethics isn't just about spotting issues… it's about having #POWER to fix them, critique business models, & challenge incentives.

Our #FAccT23 paper surveys software engineers' ethical concerns, and what they (feel they can) do about them…

Behold: Francis Bacon’s catalogue raisonné arrives just in time before the submission deadline for #FAccT23. He effectively was a co-author for my successful strategy to circumvent the content moderation for OpenAI’s DALL-E 2. More on this in a week!
It’s nine more days until the submission deadline for #FAccT23. I have a Zotero database with 675 items supporting my research, though hopefully not all of them will need citing in the paper. I have a working LaTeX setup that includes support for emoji, which is critical because I use one in the title of the paper. I have rewritten most of my data analysis code in Pandas with plenty of assertions that even caught a few bugs (Singapore in South Eastern Africa? Oops!). [1/4]
