I need #electronics insight.

I built a 4-20mA receiver for a liquid-level pressure sensor about a year ago https://blog.narf.ssji.net/2025/06/30/water-tank-level-sensor-4-20ma-current-loop-esphome-and-home-assistant/ and it has been working just fine. It's using an ESP32-PoE2 from @olimex

A couple of weeks ago, it started (incorrectly) reporting a fast-lowering water level. The current through my resistor, controlled by the sensor, was dropping.

Ultimately, that took the whole sensor down. It still pulls PoE power (1--2W), but doesn't respond to ping, #ESPHome or #HomeAssistant.

It took it out, cleaned it, and revived it. But it died again a few days back in service.

Anyone has guesses as to the causes, or suggestions to debug?

Today's #Ikea (online) haul: More Matter over #Thread devices. My first bunch of GRILLPLATS switching & energy monitoring plugs. Each bundled with a BILRESA two button remote.
Plus restocking my favorite cheap USB C/C & A/C #esphome gadget cables. Somehow they tend to disappear.

WIll use the plugs to improve my energy monitoring and replace old Ledvance zigbee plugs which started behaving sketchy.

Heute haben wir die Decoder-Funktion des Oszilloskops genutzt, um die Daten eines CO2-Sensors auszulesen. Der Port ist zwar mit RS-232 beschriftet, allerdings werden die Werte über einen Optokoppler in Open-Collector-Schaltung ausgegeben.

Im nächsten Schritt wird das Gerät über #ESPHome an #HomeAssistant angebunden.

Wer sich unter anderem für Elektronik interessiert, kann gerne den morgigen #Chaostreff besuchen. Die Türen sind ab 16 Uhr geöffnet.
