“KnowhutImean, Vern?”
Ernest P. Worrell wasn’t just funny—he was iconic. This week’s Tony’s Timeless Thursdays™ honors the genius of Jim Varney, the Ernest movies, TV show, and cultural legacy. A must-read for 80s & 90s kids!
Speaking of #StephenColbert , that was the rabbithole I went down right after emerging from the #JimVarney #ErnestPWorrell rabbithole.
I posted months earlier that with all the repeats on #HBO of the #LordOfTheRings franchise movies, that I had caught up on all of them--well, TIL that Colbert was in #TheDesolationOfSmaug ...and that's not all. It appears his family were ALL Laketown Spies, not just him (his wife is credited as Evelyn McGee). Then I encountered a #HollywoodReporter article about what Colbert might do next, and they missed the HBO option completely.
No, not as a movie actor but as competition for #BillMaher who could do with Colbert-level competition. The article cited #ConanOBrien who was doing a travel log sort of thing for HBO, so yeah--I can picture Colbert on HBO. The Hollywood Reporter completely missed THAT boat.
The best review of the #Existo #movie was found in Nashville Scene, the year it was released (1999) --and I daresay that the review suggests that this is just the film we'd all do well to see given its critique of conservativism...but it was also meant to be silly, a "musical comedy".
Just occurred to me that the guy from Crazy Taxi sounds kinda like Ernest P Worrell.
HEY VERN, let's make some C-RAZY money! KnowwhatImean?! #retrogaming #ErnestPWorrell #crazytaxi
