The #European #hedgehog, #Erinaceus #europaeus is native to parts of southern/ central #Europe, Scandinavia, and northern Russia. It lives solitarily in overlapping #territories and protects itself from #predators by #curlingup, which requires complex muscular coordination.
K. Schütte et al. (2024) identified #ectoparasites of 498 specimens. #Ixodes #ricinus and I. #canisuga were the most abundant #ticks.

Trying out some adversarial inputs to image classifiers.

Both iNaturalist and Apple Photos were fooled and thought this photo contains a Hedgehog #Erinaceus however it is actually a plane tree seed pod sitting on grass.

I’ve also found the iOS 16 Info button wildly inaccurate, which is a concern if you’re relying on it to identify a friendly vs dangerous critter.

In the meantime, a second flush of the lion’s mane is coming along nicely (for a noob grower, that is), gives me a warm fuzzy feeling 🍄 🍄 🍄
