Just edited a sentence so many times it filed a restraining order. The judge says I can’t go within 500 words of it. Guess I’m starting a new chapter. #WritingLife #EditorProblems

Dear Academic Authors,

However much you hate Manuscript Central, rest assured your faithful, diligent associate editors hate it much, much more.

TFW you finish a sensitivity/authenticity read for a high-profile author at a Big 5 publisher and you want to immediately go follow them on socials because you liked what they had to say so much... but you don't want to, like, make it WEIRD. #editorproblems
So I'm writing a description for a book about ending homelessness, but the column where this description goes is so narrow that the word "homelessness" doesn't fit. Thesaurus.com offers the equally large (but, frankly, more fun) synonym "vagabondage." #editorproblems
God damn it. I hate reading stories by friends or acquaintances in high-profile mags and seeing tons of copyediting errors. (Not house style variables, issues of idiolect or dialect, or regionalisms. I'm talking absolutely basic shit.) I know many mags don't have trained copyeditors on staff for a variety of reasons, but when you've been around for over a decade, are self-sustaining financially, and have won awards, I don't buy the excuses anymore. Authors fucking deserve better. #editorproblems
