Service design and the Mario complex

At Service Design in Government, I discovered that service designers see themselves as Mario. But that is an unrealistic model for what service design should be.

Our flag in the sand — How to escape the desert of user needs by integrating agile and user experience

I have long been an advocate of agile ways of working. One of the things that originally drew me to user experience was the opportunity to have evidence-based ways of understanding the changes you need to make. So I was surprised whenever I encountered people who believed that user experience methods ran counter to the principles of agile.

I’m gonna ask it here cause I don’t feel like asking it on LinkedIn but…

What’s the REAL difference between Design Thinking and Double Diamond ? They look exactly the same to me.

“Yeah but one is more of a mindset” blah blah blah cut the crap and give me a straightforward answer please^^

(OK, for real I’m always into philosophical and theoretical chat, so if you feel like (or know that) the answer is nuanced by design I’m all in for that too 👀)

#Design #DesignThinking #DoubleDiamond

This post https://uxdesign.cc/why-the-double-diamond-isnt-enough-adaa48a8aec1 suggests changing the #doubleDiamond method to #tripleDiamond.

I find interesting that @Adam23Gray doesn't suggest the method should be different. Rather that this clarifies how the method is intended. I might agree. What do you think? 👍 or 👎

Why the double diamond isn’t enough - UX Collective

The design process doesn’t end with prototyping. Unfortunately, designers are more often than not are pulled off a project when the prototype is done and test results come back positive. Any design…

This 📄 https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2023/08/improving-double-diamond-design-process for @smashingmag by Andy Budd suggests reversing the #doubleDiamond #model to represent design reality.

This means releasing a product & improving afterwards. While it often happens, I feel the DD model helps work towards a better process of insights first. This is why it should show the goal and not the reality. WDYT?

Improving The Double Diamond Design Process — Smashing Magazine

The so-called “Double Diamond” is a great way of visualizing an ideal design process — but it’s just not the way most companies deliver new projects or services. Andy Budd proposes a new “Double Diamond” idea that better aligns with the way work actually gets done and highlights the place where design has the most leverage.

@ataustin I designed a process for similar questions. We started with a simple feedback matrix from #designthinking & followed the #doublediamond idea. The feedback matrix gave us so much input!

Feedback matrix:
- what worked
- what needs to change (constructive criticism)
- any questions to answer
- new ideas to try out

To prioritize our topics within the matrix we used #dotocracy. Then we worked on each topic separately.

Maybe I should publish the process one day 😅 would you be interested?

Key Differences between the Double Diamond approach and Lean UX
