Tom von AltenLoss-leader advertising (I guess it is) hardly ever attracts me. Maybe "try our [whatever]" for free, and hey, if it's good, I'll come back. But "buy 3 tires, get the 4th one for $1 (see details)" or $X off work for $Y or more just makes me think they're telling me how overpriced their regular product is.

Emeritus Prof Christopher MayOver in #Austria @badlogic has been doing a lot of work on #supermarket pricing (all worth a read in his timeline), but one thing also common in the UK is 'cyclic discounting'.
Supermarkets, have some products on a cycle of #discounting with a period of them on offer & then a period of them not (partly driven by a legal requirements to have a period at full price before 'discounting' can be claimed).
We should really look at this the other way round: regular periods of higher margins!
