>A society that includes people with disabilities cannot merely make technical adjustments; it must be transformed. It requires universal public healthcare systems that reach all people, public infrastructure built for accessibility from the start, education systems that embrace difference, and political systems that emphasise participation.

People with disabilities are not marginal to society but central to it – and the injustices they face reveal the failures of a world that treats human dignity as subordinate to profit.
More attacks on the disabled by the trump regime. Social Security wants to end a rule
that protects disabled persons living in SNAP households from certain penalties. Penalties could deeply reduce SSI benefits or, in some cases, eliminate them entirely.

Blind UK pop producer to take legal action over alleged lack of support at work after surgery
@jkirkendall I would have to go into the manager at the Davis, CA location and tell them constantly the ways they were blocking the egress from the nearest disabled spot to the door by putting shopping cart lines or merchandise in the way.
Hard to get them to take it seriously enough. It's good you're posting about it because only bad publicity might motivate them.
Went to Trader Joe's in DC today. Parked in a handicapped spot, got out with my cane, found the elevator broken — stairs only.
Talked to store manager. No repair date. No alternative access plan. But I did get a "disabled customers are a priority."
The ADA passed in 1990. Thirty-six years later and "have you tried the stairs?" is still a thing. 😤
