Despite unsafe and unusable bathrooms, cockroach infestations eating through wiring and constantly damp carpets, some Tasmanian public housing tenants are having to get the regulator to intervene in order to get solutions.
Meet outside the State Library of Victoria on Saturday 30 May 2026 at 11 am and march to the #AthertonGardens #publichousing towers in Fitzroy & fight to save the towers, people's homes, and the communities in and around them.
After the rally will be a community festival at the towers.
Over 10,000 residents are set to be displaced, and 6,660 homes are set to be demolished, during an ever-worsening #housingcrisis.

The crisis is not due to a physical shortage of properties. Rather, it is a series of intentional decisions by Governments to prioritise a system of private property over peoples’ basic human need for shelter, allowing landlords and corporations to continue to hoard housing and extract wealth from tenants via rent.
