You could also do the complete opposite and try to run a desktop PC off alkaline AA cells, as [ScuffedBits] recently did out of morbid curiosity. Exactly how […]

MakeUseOf: I installed these 6 lightweight Linux tools on a cheap mini PC and turned it into a silent home server. “I grabbed an HP Office Mini PC with a modest Core i7, 8GB of RAM, and an SSD. I installed Linux Mint on it — several lightweight distros would have worked — and set it up with some of my favorite tools. These tools turned my computer into a server for backups, file syncing, […]

Hackaday: Jam Like It’s The 1980s With A Mini-IBM PC. ” In spite of the serious, boring nature of the PC/AT and its descendants, those early IBMs have a certain style that Compaq and the Clones never quite matched. Somehow, we live in a world where there are people nostalgic for Big Blue. That’s why [AnneBarela] built a miniature IBM PC using an Adafruit Fruit Jam board.” As long as it’s […]

Techspot: Dell admits customers are not buying PCs just because they “have AI”. “Nearly every major tech company is now trying to oversell this inflated ‘AI-powered’ narrative, and the PC market is no exception. Dell, who happens to be shipping a lot of PCs to every corner of the world, is apparently taking a more skeptical stance moving forward, arguing that the push is misguided because […]

Tom’s Hardware: AI PC revolution appears dead on arrival — ‘supercycle’ for AI PCs and smartphones is a bust, analyst says. “According to a prominent analyst, Micron’s miss on Q3 earnings and guidance for the second quarter of next year might signal that the AI PC and smartphone supercycle isn’t happening. I'm seeking budget-friendly 30"+ monitors for desktop computing via Raspberry Pi 4 (mostly movie files) etc and a little Xbox gaming - anyone have any strong recommendations? If so, feel free to share! I don't feel like I'm up to speed on this at all. But it absolutely must *not* be a TV (don't watch TV, so don't pay for a license, and don't want to be falsely flagged up for one by buying one!) #DesktopComputers #DesktopComputing #RaspberryPi #RaspberryPi4 #Xbox #MediaCenterKodi #gaming #monitor
To those who play audio or text based #games, what do you look for in a #computer? I’m looking at #desktopComputers, and I’m unsure if I need a good dedicated #graphicsCard since most of the games I play are #audiogames or #textBasedGames. I would prefer not to buy a #gamingDesktop with a dedicated graphics card since that drives the price up a few hundred dollars.
