"Homelessness campaigner Martin Leahy has brought the curtain down on his Thursday protest outside Leinster House after 200 weeks.

The Cork musician has sung his song entitled 'Everyone should have a home' at the gates of the national parliament each Thursday lunchtime for the last four years."

#DerelictIreland on Instagram: "What next? How about no more rot. Now University College Cork have shelved their plans for this 200 year old Georgian home (one of two left from a terrace that was built in 1825), as well as plans for the former Brooks Haughton's builders yard, their neighbour on the historic South Terrace, Cork City centre. Could they be homes? For example the @corkstudenthousingcoop are looking for premises, wouldn't that be a lovely story if University College Cork worked with them to make cooperative student housing a reality in Cork. Aside from potential homes it's so sad and wasteful seeing our architectural heritage rotting like this, given its vital for our wellbeing and our sense of place. And letting buildings rot is never a recommended strategy, particularly given most sustainable is existing. So what next, so many options, but please don't continue to let them rot. We live with Dóchas. #derelictireland🙏 #RestPlayWork #protestart #Everyoneshouldhaveahome #VacantIreland 🎵 by @martinpleahy"

Blue sky thinking needed. This set of crumbling buildings has featured in the New York Times. We need to so better. #Cork #DerelictIreland
Ireland's housing crisis is entirely an own-goal, committed by the government, who willingly refuses to acknowledge what is very much a fixable problem. It's infuriating to see such an obvious, concrete problem not being solved due to inertia and ineptitude. #derelictIreland

Opinion: At this rate, it will take over 30 years to fill Ireland's existing derelict homes

Taking a look at derelict buildings around the country, Jude Sherry and Dr Frank O’Connor say a lack of enforcement is slowing the reduction rate.
