Tell us why in the comments 👇 Final details to be announced very soon. We invite all to join us on Saturday 5th in Dublin to demand safe secure homes that everyone in our communities deserve. We are sick of our Governments giving landlords and vulture funds a free pass to do as they like while we are seeing our friends and family emigrate; rents rocket to new highs; more and more families forced into emergency accommodation; and public housing being looked over in favour of costly private developments that no worker on an average salary could afford. Workers are being squeezed for every penny we earn, while investment funds see their profits soar. As Ireland's only tenants union we know this housing crisis is a political choice. As a country, we have the resources to end this crisis - but politicians have put profit before public good. Enough is enough. Bígí linn!"

No European city would tolerate the decay and dereliction visible in Dublin.
All of Ireland’s cities and larger towns need positive urban planning. That needs a revolution in government thinking.

Is it true the number of landlords is falling?

"It is clear the overall number of landlords does not appear to be in decline.

However, the gap between the rental properties available and what is needed in the market remains as large as ever."

When The New York Times covers a campaign you started 4 years ago with a single tweet you are reminded we all have the power to change things, we need to use it. Thanks to everyone who has supported me & Jude @anoisagency @derelictireland in what's been a rollercoaster of a journey to-date. We love that the article starts with one of our dereliction tours of Cork city. We introduced tours from the outset, they've brought a whole new dimension to protest, & have influenced so many people to-date. Thanks to @robstothard for taking such interest in our work & the wider housing emergency in Ireland. And for writing this important piece for the @nytimes. Great to see @cym.cork (who are also @catucork members) included in the piece too. We've worked with both over the last 4 years. Both bring important services & support to Cork. Let's hope this coverage is another step forward in ensuring #everyoneshouldhaveahome in Ireland. #ProtestArt #DerelictIreland #HousingCrisis #VacantIreland #RestPlayWork #RegenerativePlacemaking #Ireland #corkcity #socialactivism #socialcontract #socialjustice #Art #Design #Activism #heritagematters #EvictionBan 🎵 Death to the Landlord by @merylstreek_"

Leaving properties derelict for decades should be a crime against the state. Owners of derelict and vacant properties must either use them or lose them. Implementing a dereliction tax, such as 100% of the property's price paid over five years with an upfront penalty, could significantly change the current status quo. It's worth mentioning that 14,009 people were accessing emergency homeless accommodation by the end of April.
