PSA: For the ~three of you here that might access the #decuserve #eisner #VSI #OpenVMS Alpha server, the ssh port has changed from the standard 22 to 22867, and the ssh server has been updated with newer keys and certificates.
Why? The ssh server used on that OpenVMS box apparently doesn't contend well with ubiquitous ssh brute-forcing.

@RenewedRebecca VAX BASIC (later DEC BASIC) had those enhancements back in the first part of the 1980s.
A whole lot of business and commercial software was written using that compiler, too.
For anybody that wants to play with that BASIC, there’s an accessible OpenVMS Alpha system with the compiler installed.

All that’s getting ported to VSI OpenVMS x86-64 too, and the hobbylist license plans mean running that locally gets easier.
