Took some comparison shots between the  Steam Deck OLED and DeckHD, primarily to determine if there's a significant difference when GeForce Now runs at a 1:1 res (1200p) versus running internally at 1200p on the 800p OLED. Suffice it to say, the differences are quite striking. 👀

After several months I finally made up my mind to buy the #jsaux translucent shell and do the exchange. I already had the #deckHD installed and figured I could go back to the old screen that wasn't making much of a difference. Right now, I'm debating the benefits of the screen but since I'm using #nixos on my deck a lot of the configuration and trouble that goes along with the DeckHD are nullified since I declaratively tell the operating system not to update things like the BIOS.

#deckHD seems to be kind of imploding on itself. I did get one and got it installed without trouble but it seems like lots of others had much more trouble with even fulfillment. I still don’t see any open sourcing of the BIOS so I guess that means hex editor to figure out what changed. Kinda stinks so my advice to folks is just get the OLED #SteamDeck

Put the #deckhd in my #steamdeck today. Time consuming mod and you get a nice heart attack or two when the screen doesn’t come on. Everything seems to be working right so far. I need to change the internal display scaling and find my heatsink screw I managed to drop in the office.

Going back to the classic  800p interface scaling (top) after getting used to 1200p through DeckHD (bottom) after many weeks will be tough, I’m not gonna lie. 🫠
