Done with "To Your Scattered Bodies Go", I like Philip Farmer. His best speculations are in humanities, a feat more interesting than a thorough description of yet another FTL propulsion. Farmer is also very progressive, somewhat Vonnegut-esque. But the female characters are a catastrophe, sex toys they are, no bigger role is played.

I have a nice companion book, "An Informal History of the Hugos" (got in mint condition at a second hand for like 1 EUR/10 SEK, what a find), a great reference when reading the #scifi classics. In 1972, this first Riverworld novel won Hugo, and a nominee was Zelazny's "Jack of Shadows". Jack is a cool character, a mischievous trickster protagonist. There were two of that kind, Jack and Cugel the Clever. Jack influenced the world of games too, there is the thief class in #DnD, but there is the #Thief videogame series too. To play Garrett in 2025, #FOSS reimplementation exists, The Dark Mod.
