A ★★★ review of Thief (1981)

Thief has that kind of special quality that's unique to its era; normal people portraying normal people. There's no overwriting of characters, no goofiness, and no unnaturally “pretty” cast (if that makes sense) -just believable faces with believable performances. It's remarkable how films from decades ago can still feel refreshing, largely due to their pacing. The editor took the time to reveal the story and build tension effectively. The cinematography is unpretentious, and the music by Tangerine Dream is always a highlight for me. However, I give it “only” three stars because the film sometimes feels like it's missing crucial
