How do you all feel about setup randomness in your #boardgames (in my case, a #CubeRail game)? I remember that it was something folk objected to with Brass Birmingham versus Brass The Old Less Beery One.

Currently - Emu Bay's resources and minor companies are randomly placed at the start of the game by cards (which I think, from memory, was borrowed a little bit by AuZtralia). Previously, initial bonds were also randomly distributed between companies at the start of the game, but I think I'm killing that. Does needing to assess the initial state each game negatively impact the playing experience, in your opinion, or does it add an interesting layer of strategy?

Getting old stuff from me - newborn = not many trains rn. Years ago, I modified Martian Rails - a crayon rail game - to be played async over lunchtimes at work, and it was great. Wrote it up on https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2079683/asynchronous-play-martian-rails

(Scheduled this post last week... in case I forgot)

Asynchronous play of Martian Rails | Martian Rails

So - a few months back I was looking feverishly for a copy of Iron Dragon, and ended up with a copy of Martian Rails (because I found it cheap). After a few games, I decided to bring it into work as a lunch game. We're a ~30 person company,

This is the Albury train station. It has an extremely long platform, because it used to be where you changed trains between Melbourne and Sydney; there's a break of gauge, so one train couldn't go the whole way. One train would be on one end, you'd grab your stuff, and take it to the train waiting on the other end. The platform is 455m long!

@evan I do like trains, but I really love train games. I love #18xx board games, like #cuberail board games, love #AgeOfSteam, like the occasional crayon rail, like #TransportTycoon and really love #RailroadTycoon.

Big soft spot for Steam trains, particularly.
