This is long overdue. We made a 2% spending commitment to NATO that previous governments, Liberal and Conservative, have all failed to hit for 36 years. That would be back in 1989, during Brian Mulroney's final term and the Cold War. FINALLY! #cdnpoli #NATO #Canada #CAF #RCAF #RCN #CSIS #canpoli

The #CSIS reports that combat losses in this #war have reached 1.4 million: #Russia 1 million, #Ukraine 400,000. Over 1,000 armored vehicles, 3,000 IFVs, 300 artillery units, and 2,000 tanks have been lost. Russia’s equipment losses are five times Ukraine’s. Russia has lost more soldiers here than in all post-WWII conflicts combined.

Ukraine has no choice but to continue. Russia could end it immediately, yet chooses not to.

Putin tattled on Ukraine to Trump, and Trump was deeply affected

Putin complained to Trump that Ukrainian terrorists were disrupting negotiations, and Trump lost interest in Ukraine and started asking Putin for help with Iran.

A few fragments from latest analysis from Center for Strategic and International Studies #CSIS

Russian fatalities and casualties have been extraordinary. Russia will likely hit the 1 million casualty mark in the summer of 2025—a stunning and grizzly milestone. Overall, a high of 250,000 Russian soldiers have died in Ukraine, with over 950,000 total Russian casualties.

Russian fatalities in Ukraine (in just over three years) are 15 times larger than the Soviet Union’s decade-long war in Afghanistan and 10 times larger than Russia’s 13 years of war in Chechnya.

Russian forces have advanced an average of only 50 meters per day in such areas as Kharkiv, slower than during the Somme offensive in World War I, where French and British forces advanced an average of 80 meters per day.

Russia’s Battlefield Woes in Ukraine

Russia has performed poorly on the battlefield in Ukraine and will likely hit the 1 million casualty mark in the summer of 2025. New CSIS data details Russia's slow rate of advance, heavy losses of equipment, and significant casualties.

Troop #Casualties in #Russia #Ukraine War Near 1.4 Million, Study Finds

Nearly 1 million Russian troops have been killed or wounded in the country’s war against Ukraine…a staggering toll as Russia’s assault on its neighbor grinds on.

The study, published on Tuesday by the Center for Strategic & International Studies #CSIS in Washington, said that close to 400,000 Ukrainian troops have also been killed or wounded since the war began.

Troop Casualties in Ukraine War Near 1.4 Million, Study Finds

With high casualty figures and the slow pace of Russia’s territorial gains, President Vladimir V. Putin could face years more of a grinding war of attrition in Ukraine.

The New York Times

Seth Jones, president of the defense & security department of the Center for Strategic & International Studies (#CSIS), describes the #US role so far in the negotiations as "relatively #weak" & cautions that if the admin were to walk away from the talks "it would fundamentally shift the balance of power in the #war to the Russian side."

He adds that European nations could not easily or quickly replace the #intelligence that the US has provided.
