Craft Post 3/3: To Be A Person- Jane Hirshfield (The Threepenny Review)

I perceived her references to nature to as what is fueling or draining; creates powerful visuals while reading (basic, acid, stomata, nuclei, jokes).

I smiled while reading " Hums. Feeds strays. / Says "all together now, on three", to me, it captures empathy &innocence while in theta brain state.

last 2 stanzas are powerful; the 1st stanza was a statement, turned open ended question.

Craft Post 2/3: To Be A Person- Jane Hirshfield (The Threepenny Review)

5th stanza portrays the duality of taking of witnessed suffering pleasure versus witnessed suffering beauty, I've never thought to compare those two. Powerful mid poem stanza to pull you back in , even if you did not resist while reading.

Then she portrays the contrary: blushing, spinning until dizzy (reminds me of a song I love- dizzy on the comedown by turnover).

Craft Post 1/3: To Be A Person- Jane Hirshfield (The Threepenny Review)

Captivated by the first verse. Bold statement that keeps you reading quickly to find out what she means.

second stanza- describing odd and unbalanced humanistic features, yet feels like an oxymoron with the upright as the middle verse between the two imbalances.

turns animalistic and creature-like folk lore with the third stanza

Craft Post 1/3- Seen From Above by Wislawa Szymborska

The scene is set with what she sees, a dead beatle lies on a dirt road. with its legs neatly folded by the belly. I felt intrigued when I read "instead of the chaos of death- tidiness and order". It seems that is the immediate thought when people see a dead bug, that's how it should be. Yet, when humans/pets die, we feel all the feels.

Craft Post (3/3): Her Kind- Anne Sexton

Rhyming the last words of every other verses from lines 1-4 in each stanza

The 5th verses of each stanza rhyme with one another.

The 6th verses of each stanza spell out : quite, misunderstood, die"

Her craft ignites her message. It is a shame she left this earth early in her life. She could have done so much more with her words to fight on for humanity.

Craft Post (2/3): Her Kind- Anne Sexton

3 different personas identified, yet she claims to have been them all. I felt feelings of being enraged yet courageous in her repetition of " a woman like that is ().../ I have been her kind." I can't help but notice a tone of acceptance and claiming ownership behind the pain to take back power.

Also "her"...it's not just herself. It's speaking for all of us women.

Craft Post (2/3): Pg.162, Time Will Tell by Courtney Peppernell

I feel enthralled while reading each part of the poem. The verse mentioning how the dreams "were forged billions of years ago" makes my nerves tingle.
I resonate that our dreams are ours to understand, to follow, to pursue.
Even when the path can fall silent or lonely, yet the nudge says keep going.
I can relate to this at this point in my life whole heartedly.

Craft Post (2/3): "When the Moon Had Antlers" (Pg.35-36)- By Tresha Faye Haefner (given consent in person by author to post).Event: Poetry Tap at Oden Brewing in Greensboro, NC. Met Tresha!

As a adult, you crave "the bear", looking everywhere for it and what tangibility it has. If you could find it, you could breathe again & feel present. The poet presents it as a motif of a mirror of your desires. Not of normality, but of more.
