It aims to understand how media discourses, investigative journalism, and educational programs shape public perceptions of corruption and anti-corruption efforts. Task 8.1 investigates how corruption-related topics are represented in legacy and social media across different European countries, employing computational methods to map networks of actors and discourses. This analysis spans traditional and social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok. Task 8.2 examines the influence of journalistic practices on how corruption is reported and framed, with a particular focus on cross-border investigative journalism and collaborative practices, such as those seen in the Uber Files case. Task 8.3 explores the effects of media exposure on citizens’ perceptions and behaviors regarding corruption through experimental studies, focusing on factors like the identifiable victim effect and the impact of ‘infobots’ disseminating corruption-related information on social media. Finally, Task 8.4 assesses the role of education in shaping young citizens’ understanding of corruption, focusing on the impact of Libera’s anti-corruption education programs and the transferability of its YouMonitor toolkit to other European contexts. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of how corruption is constructed socially and how different forms of media and education influence public awareness and policy support.
