Everytime I hear Remmick tell Sammie, "I want your stories…I want your songs… and you'll have mine.", I can't help but think of AI.

Like, the whole comparison of the similarities between religion and vampirism/cultism in Sinners -- especially when it comes to creative people and creative struggle -- is one dagger in the gut.

But DAMN.

The way Remmick's effectively stealing the wills and trapping the souls of other people via vampirism works as a metaphor for the way companies use AI, too; freaking kills me.

They add it to every corner of your life without a by your leave: hovering over you. Apps, browsers, search engines, art programs, emails -- you just can't get the fuck away from it, EVEN if you purposely try to use only services that purport not to allow them.

And everything AI churns out is so damn bland.

It's milquetoast. A lifeless slurry, like a wax dolphin made out of REAL dolphin. -_-+++

Remmick absorbed all those party-goers… but notice that none of their stories or songs are being told.
ONLY HIS.

Even as all their voices sing out, it's JUST his story.

Like damn.
I don't WANT you to have my stories and songs!

Do you know how many people and religious dogmas and internalized bigotries I've had to painfully fight in my life, in order to keep alive the will to create and to write?

I don't CARE if my work is actually any good or not!
I don't CARE whether anyone actually likes my work or not!

That's not the point!
Because in the end, it's MINE!

It comes through MY feral, fucked up, ignorant, suppressed, traumatized, hope-obsessed lens!

It describes MY struggles as a fat woman; as a Black Latina; as a raped and shunned and isolated and deprived child; and a raped and manipulated and abused and neglected and deprived wife; and as a frustrated, resilient, stubborn, neurodivergent expression of LIFE!!!

THESE CORPORATIONS DON'T DESERVE MY STORIES, OR MY SONGS!

AND I SURE DON'T DESERVE THEIRS!

I don't deserve to have my ideas thin-washed, sane-washed, white-washed, class-washed -- language and narratives toned-down and twisted and untwisted and painted in beige: undead shades that rob them of anti-capitalist and anti-ableist quirk and bite!

NO ONE deserves that.

We ALL deserve more!

They should NOT have any kind of access to the little bit of art that I, and that others, were able to fight to scrape together - despite pain and poverty, indoctrination and sabotage, and the weight of every discouragement of mind or illness of body we continually experience under this poisonous system.

No means fucking NO.

No means fucking NO, motherfucker!

It makes me wish I could find these people, hobble over to them on my cane, and claw their motherfucking EYES out!!

That the owning class is the reason that so many human beings throughout the centuries -- millions, BILLIONS -- don't get to develop and create, and share their passions with the world, is bad enough.

It's horrific!
It's Unforgivable!

That these corporate billionaire zombies still feel entitled to the precious works that creatives do get done, DESPITE the owning class' hoarding and censorship and oppression -- regardless of whether or not another soul would find that work to have value -- is goddamn DEMONIC, and quite frankly, worthy of a beating within an inch of their disgusting lives! 🤬🤬🤬😒

"For Indian professionals, success in the US also came with a hidden cost. Their rise in the tech economy necessitated complicity in the country’s racial inequities. By avoiding engagement with these structures, they reinforced a system that elevated one racial minority while marginalising others."

How MAGA fell out with ‘Indian Tech-Bros’

It is no surprise the fragile alignment between Indian professionals and the “America First” movement is unravelling.

Part of the efforts to co-opt and neutralize King’s radical vision is to restrict nonviolence to moral suasion—the idea that nonviolence only works if it can appeal to some kind of inherent sense of justice.

#nonviolence #cooption

While nonviolence can include changing minds, that is only a small part of nonviolent action, such as described in the work of Gene Sharp.

Strike & boycotts, for example, don’t work because of a moral effect on exploitative owners.

Those nonviolent actions work because they disrupt the material and logistical support on which owners depend, increasing costs to a point where owners find it more cost effective to accede to demands.

Episode 5.3: Solarpunk, Lunarpunk, Crypto, & Web3 with Stephen Reid

Disclaimer: Neither Christina, Ariel, nor the Solarpunk Presents podcast agree with nor support the use of cryptocurrencies or web3. For sound critiques (as well as explanations) of these technologies, check out the videos Line Goes Up - The Problem With NFTs from @FoldingIdeas (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g) and Web3.0: A Libertarian Dystopia from @Munecat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-sNSjS8cq0) as well as the website https://www.web3isgoinggreat.com/.

In Season 5 Episode 3 of Solarpunk Presents, Christina chats with transdisciplinary technologist Stephen Reid about the relationship that solarpunk and lunarpunk have to crypto and web3. If lunarpunk is what solarpunk gets up to in the shadows of a moonlit night, that suggests that lunarpunk is inherently more interested in privacy, security, and anonymity, especially from the watchful eye of the state. Further, that means that where solarpunk is interested in renewable energy, sustainability, appropriate technology, and social justice, lunarpunk is interested in the tools, like cryptography, cryptocurrencies, and web3, that safeguard our privacy and anonymity and potentially protect us from tyranny. Do we need lunarpunk’s fixation with using tech to protect our privacy to counterbalance solarpunk’s sunny optimism that everything will all be fine to break through to a better world?
