Discretion is the better part of valor (is that the phrase?) -- implementing my #heatwave contingency plans for the library (and bicycling). Placing holds on the materials I am interested in at the outside locker, and will bicycle and pick up the materials later this week either early in the morning, or later in the evening when it is cool (probably morning, a lot less traffic). #contingencyplanning

19 hr 3 min to walk that sucker... 49.2 miles. Most I have walked in a day is 20 miles, and that sucked. So... make that a 3 day trip, with water and people who have lost their minds the biggest issue, LOL.Hit the nearest bicycle store or find someone who'd sell you a bike and make it a 5 hour pedal... #contingencyplanning (not seriously worried about this, but always fun to think out scenarios).

...and reserved a room (which can be cancelled up to a day ahead)... *JUST* in case. Always better to book and cancel these than attempt a last minute reservation. #contingencyplanning

I realize that this is probably a 🔥 take, but here goes…

The recent round of tech layoffs serve as a good reminder that, IMO, you trade away the job security of government work for the salary & growth potential of the commercial sector.

Right or wrong, layoffs are the norm in a 💵📈 driven game.

Recent examples: MSFT made $198.27B in revenue in 2022.

GOOG made over $250B.

Both were making record amounts of money, yet both still made wholesale layoffs.

It’s doing yourself a service to always have contingency plans in place should the unfortunate happen to you. No one FTE or resource is indispensable at any level when P&L are the primary drivers of the game.
