*please, if we're going to have a Carrington event, I'd like to get home from yet another trip hauling people to/from LAX, thank you.
19 hr 3 min to walk that sucker... 49.2 miles. Most I have walked in a day is 20 miles, and that sucked. So... make that a 3 day trip, with water and people who have lost their minds the biggest issue, LOL.Hit the nearest bicycle store or find someone who'd sell you a bike and make it a 5 hour pedal... #contingencyplanning (not seriously worried about this, but always fun to think out scenarios).
Bicycle stores in West LA, mostly. Looks like the (theoretical contingency) plan would be to hoof it to the nearest bicycle store, buy a bicycle (if they would even sell one) and then pedal all the way home (MTB probably best for terrain). Better odds buying one off an unhoused individual stashing one under a freeway, LOL. -- again, wouldn't expect anything big, but contigency planning always is fun for disasters.
@ai6yr better carry cash for such contingency purchases.

@ai6yr reminds me of that Steven Wright joke:
Everywhere is walking distance

If you’ve got the time

@ai6yr how about a nice sailboat charter?
@ai6yr I used to ride in those mountains a lot and I've dragged unsuspecting friends up there too. The 2k+ feet of elevation gain can be brutal if you aren't trained for it. It's a relentless uphill that turns into a very long slog when the legs give out and the granny gear isn't low enough any more. You'd need lots of water too as it's starting to get hot.
@teleclimber Oh yes, quite familiar with that, LOL. I have done a lot of hiking around there. You would be better off just pedaling up the PCH where it's flat.
@ai6yr my goodness. your fam needs to stop flying so often. lol. : )
@exador23 Well, this is all coming back from my daughter's graduation flights, but... yes. The in-laws have got to stop with the cruises and vacations, their CO2 budget is about 2000x mine. But, their brains are stuck in the 1950's :-(
@ai6yr I figured y'all would have flown back at the same time. bummer you have to go back to LAX again. what a drag.
@exador23 Don't get me started!!!! Today was the spouse, but that was because of having to help the daughter with some stuff. 5 (nearly 6 hours) of wasted time, have been working here in parallel to make up the hours...

@ai6yr just tell them it’s not safe for them to travel since their plane might fall out of the sky…

If you’re lucky, they’ll stop asking you for rides.
