Solidarisch und handlungsfähig in der Polykrise

Building the bonds between neighbors before an event is vital to a neighborhood coming together during an event, even a small one.

Wave your neighbors down when you see them. Be kinda annoying. Ask them if they need help, then help them.

We’re not going to get through the coming round of crises on our own, our best chance is together.

We were able to text neighbors to ask if they needed to refrigerate any prescriptions. We met on the sidewalks and exchanged information. The kid and I biked down to the scene and took pictures and texted the group.

The neighbor with the RV offered it as a place to cool off if the power didn’t come back on before the heat of the day.

And check in on the older neighbors who may not have planned for something like this.

We can all make it through this if we work together.

In the decade since it’s been shown more vulnerable to natural disasters, but the thesis of “the US electrical grid sucks” is still true.

Extreme heat is very taxing on the power grid.

And war with Iran is going to send the price of oil into the stratosphere.

So fill up your gas tank and get some for the generator.
Figure out what you’ll do to keep yourself cool and the fridge running if the power goes out.

Get your electrical preps in order.

There’s a heat dome over the Midwest right now.

Get your stuff situated so you have a way to cool yourself if the grid goes out in the heat of the day.

Way back in 2016 Ted Koppel wrote a book called Light’s Out, about how our electrical grid was vulnerable to attack.

It’s nice to see #communityprepping getting more mainstream press. And @margaret and Eric Shonkwiler are two of the best #EmergencyPrepardness educators on the left side of the political spectrum.

These preppers have ‘go bags,’ guns and a fear of global disaster. They’re also left-wing

Prepping has long been dominated by those on the political right — with the classic stereotype of a lone wolf hunkering in a bunker with food, water and guns. That may be changing as fears of authoritarianism and climate change bring more people from the left to preparedness

404Media posted an article yesterday about “off-grid internet boxes”. As someone who's given the intersection of tech and prepping a lot of thought I knew I had to write something up:
