A PROCEDURE for creating and performing chants and banishing.

Consider the focus of a particular banishment. Set your intent on banishing a specific distraction, looming problem, or psychic threat.

Pick a phrase to repeat which captures its essence. This may be very short or as long as desired, but should be simple enough for the chanter to improvise and then subsequently repeat without forgetting, and elegant enough to speak with enjoyment—or elicit other feelings the chanter wishes to practice experiencing.

Standing in the desired space for magical work, use the limbs to describe segments, quadrants, or other regions of this space. I prefer 90° segments of concentric spheres about my head, or wherever my head will be if I plan to seat after banishing. Reach out to describe first the furthest regions of space about this center, and later the nearest.

While moving the body in a way which feels suitable to the ritual, close the eyes and chant for as long as possible on one breath. At each breath, become either more vigorous, more certain, or otherwise more rapid in recitation of the mantra. While chanting stops, so does motion.

At some breaths, open the eyes and attend to phenomena which coincide with the position of the body and its limbs. Do any objects immediately capture the gaze or appear to contain a message? If so, consider a new mantra which addresses and consumes this message: repetition of a mantra concerning a phenomenon will disarm it inoculatively and remove its influence on our attention. Once the mantra is mastered and the act of its repetition has satiated the mind, the intrusion is defanged.

At new change of focus, pay attention to mantras which refuse to be repeated, especially those which don't seem to be tongue twisters. Perhaps there is another reason for this difficulty. Unless it is a distractingly poor choice of mantra, do not yield, and instead repeat each stubborn mantra as slowly as is necessary to repeat it flawlessly. Gain mastery before proceeding.

The banishing is over when the performer knows it to be.

Things which are connected by a COMMON CAUSE necessarily contain with them some shared causal essence, even if it is homeopathically dilute. On some level, the information which caused me to wonder what my relationship to an event is, is the same as the information that causes me to roll dice about it and is the same that causes me to roll the dice in such a particular way as to produce the outcome of the roll. But can divination really be any more certain than astrology?

On some level, we can never be rid of the facts of a situation, as we are asked to confront by any discussion of the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind, or any physiological description of the brain or its chemistry! Nothing simply goes away, and everything contaminates some part of us in ways our bodies amplify on any one of the above levels. Though, perhaps we should think that our minds only register vanishingly small particles of causality in aggregate, such that it is impossible (impractical) to disentangle the web of information which makes up each one's path… but that also, on the whole, each particle causes this web to move one way or another. This aggregation produces feelings and properties all its own.

Our minds can sense tiny things which are incredibly subtle to detect using any other device… Who can say what causal dust bunnies are or are not influencing our perceptions? Who can say the granularity with which our minds and bodies can interpret the minuscule signs all about us?
