It's that time of night when my brain goes for a wander while nobody is there to keep it under control.
The recent Caesar's Palace and MGM ransomware attacks have me wondering how long it will be before we see Company/Organisation A pay a group like AlphaV to exterminate Company/Organisation B's entire IT environment?
For criminal organisations like AlphaV it's the ultimate pay off. Get paid by one org to do the damage bringing down the IT infrastructure of the victim, and get paid by the victim for the keys to try and restore it.
For Company/Organisation A it could be a path to capturing the lion's share of the market and reducing the capabilities of a rival.
Having said all that we all know businesses and hackers are far too ethical to enter into such an arrangement. Don't we?
I mean it couldn't happen in real life. Could it?
