Thanks to @rubenerd, #TIL that #Cat8 #Ethernet is a thing. Also that flat Ethernet cabling is a thing.

Who knew?

@Sparky there's no valid reason to use #T568A nowadays, since even the shittiest #PoE-Injectors and #Switches do #AutoMDIX!

  • And with "shittiest" I mean those €5 8-Port 10/100M switches from Aperzon's trashbin!

#Cat8.1-Ethernet as per #T568B is the way to go, unless you can go with #OM5 or #OS2, then go with those #fiber standards!

@lattera sweet - report on/followup, lots of people will be making this move #smb sector #fiber #cat8 #dac cables
George is seizing the means of production, hindering technological progress.

#NewEthernetCable #CAT8 #InfiniteCAT

Das neue #CAT8 - #Backbone macht Fortschritte. Nicht schön, aber blau!
Hinter der Wand kommt der neue #Serverraum.

#EinmalMitProfis #Kabel #Netzwerk

✅ 2x #CAT8 durch 10m 16x30mm #Kabelkanal gezogen mit einer 90° Biegung.

So ein #Zugdraht ist definitiv die geilste Erfindung ever!

@qwertyoruiop @saagar You did #OS2 #fiber inhouse?

Wow, that's quite expensive...

Personally I'd use #OM5 + #Cat8 because both are cheap to use and setup.

Consider renting a fiber splicer machine instead of buying if your budget isn't 5 digits for that tool alone...

@astrid @vees also the current limit I can get done with like #Cat8 cabling is 40Gbit/s!

And yes, I did wire that stuff manually at someone's home!

rj45 is such a funny connector if you think about it. it was designed for telephone switching in the 70s and 80s and it actually is fairly reasonably designed for a telephone signal connector. But ...

@lexd0g @coolbeans +1

And they fail to provide "added value" to justify that bs price compared to some #Cat8 Patch Cable from Aperzon!

@[email protected] @[email protected] *agreed* At that price it should be #Cat8 S/STP (PIMF) with extra ground lead to connect externally as well as sping steel retaining latches so they can't be broken off? Cuz not even Steam-pressure - washable & desinfectable Patchcables for medical devices using #Neutrik-Connectors are that expensive, and those at least have a valid reason to do so...
