@EricFielding @Viss @EUCommission the manufacturer has to enshure compliance from the factory.

  • Given that #eCall is designed to be used only in #cashes that would've also triggered an #airbag, this is something one can buy in advance in bulk.

Basically it's a #M2M #eSIM.

  • As for additional dara & voice services, most cars either use "Remote #SIM" features (for like 20 years over Bluetooth) or have a dedicaded Modem & (e)SIM for rhat purpose alone...

@[email protected] @[email protected] AFAIK that stuff is using an eSIM. - As for data, since these do narrowband data-only, there are B2B plans that offer that for a fixed, prepaid sum of 10 years upfront. Tho OFC it would not make sense for Mazda to activate that feature unless necessary per law and I'm shure that unit does automatically check whether or nit it has to using GPS and the region settings when initally setup / bought / driven from/into the dealership. - That being said this is something they most likely can activate anytime with just a service/firmware update at the dealership or potentially remote. I doubt Mazda's HQ would.certify that they *don't* have that preinstalled or the ability.to reactivate it, given that it's cheaper to just DRM functionality instead of building different types of setupsM - It may even be more expensive for them to actively not install it due to economies of scale. But to be shure I'd likely have to ask a #CarForensics expert and let them have a look at the vehicle in question. - Cuz modern cars are essential entire LANs on wheels!
