#CarbonFee and dividend policy would charge corporations for their #CarbonPollution, then distribute the money collected back to American households. This would force down carbon pollution while addressing cost increases for middle-class, working-class, and poor people.

'Climate Damages Tax': Fossil fuel levy could raise $720bn to tackle climate crisis

"The report proposes that OECD countries, and in particular members of the G7, should take a lead in introducing a fee per tonne of CO2 embedded (CO2e) within the domestic extraction of coal, oil, and gas."

It advocates for 80% of the proceeds to be transferred to a Loss and Damage Fund for assisting developing countries, 20% for domestic communities.

This is the poorest judgment Trudeau has ever shown.

He's done lots of things I disagree with but I always thought he was good at calculating political fallout.

This was utterly foolish. He has cemented Poilievre's win in the next election; a disaster for Canada and the world.

In Ontario, Canada where I live our #carbonfee just went up to $65/ton. Since we have a version of James Hanson’s fee and dividend carbon policy our projected carbon dividend this year is close to $1000 paid quarterly. As an engineer I like the simple elegance of the #feeanddividend policy. Both the fee and the dividend naturally incentivize a move away from fossil fuels. The question I still have is $65/ton and $1000/yr enough to get job done.
