Out taking some plant pictures a couple years ago when I espy this big speedy beetle in the road. Vehicle coming so I step back, vehicle moves over (nice) and nails my bug too​😑​

So I took a couple pictures of what's left and tried to ID it when I got home. Thought it would be easy because it had this "third eye" smack dab in its forehead... Wasted a lot of time with that till I realized it was just bug juice from the squashing. Ooops🙄

A Caterpillar Hunter or more specifically Fiery Hunter Beetle. Maybe an inch long and REALLY FAST for a beetle this size. Haven't seen another one since either...
