Amanda HickieFinally finished these socks. They were my second backup project so only pulled out when I couldn't do the first two. I reaquainted myself with cabling, discovered how annoying cable needles could be on, say, a crowded train, but then learned how to cable without a needle. Yay!
Also reaquainted myself with how much I don't enjoy magic loop knitting so went back to a set of dpns for the second sock. And so the second sock is about two sizes larger which no one but me (and you) will ever know.

I'm doing a test run of a cable knit project with some leftover yarn, so I can get a feel for it before I knit it in the proper yarn. I found the free pattern on Ravelry called "Bolivian Bulky Celtic Cable Vest" by Shannon Dunbabin. Due to lack of a printer I copied it down by hand and color coded it so I hopefully don't get lost!! #knitting #cableknitting

Una VerdandiI want to make a coat out of this wool/nylon (75%/25%) blend but I haven't found a crochet stitch that both shifts the colours in an attractive way and *doesn't* eat up so much yarn that I can't make anything big enough to serve as a winter coat.
So knitting it is. But I don't like the way stockinette stitch stripes with short colour changes, and, frankly, knitting stockinette is boring. Plus, being able to scrunch up the fabric a bit should help make it a bit warmer. (I'll probably still need to make a lining because the fibre is a bit scratchy, but that's not a problem.)
I want to use a combination of geometric and organic shapes because I like the way that looks. However, this fibre has virtually no sheen and the short colour changes can obscure subtle stitch patterns. This is one of the stitch patterns I have been experimenting with. Will I use it? We'll see.
