Last night, I had the honour of attending the 'We Are Brimbank' Awards, where I was nominated for Citizen of the Year. Whilst I didn’t win—nor did I expect to—I felt truly privileged to be in the company of such inspiring individuals and organisations who are making a real difference in our community. From passionate young leaders like Billy Chen, to driven change makers like Julian Reynolds, and incredible organisations like Helping Hands Mission Op Shops, it was a night that celebrated our strong and vibrant Brimbank community.
I do what I do because I know what it feels like to be left out, to not be seen or heard. And I never want anyone in our community to feel that way. I believe in the power of people, of collective action, and of kindness. I believe that when we show up for each other, we can transform lives.
I will never stop fighting—for our people, for our planet, and for a more sustainable, inclusive, and equitable Brimbank. I need no award to continue to work towards a brighter future, for everyone.
Remember, WE are Brimbank!
Sorry, I don't have any photos from the night, as no group pics were taken of the nominees, but you can watch BCC's reel of the night here:

What an incredible time celebrating Holi yesterday! 🍂 A huge thank you to Poonam Singh and Women Of Brimbank for hosting such a vibrant, joyful event. It was such a beautiful celebration of colour, culture, and community.
It was also wonderful getting to know Victorian Multicultural Commissioners, Silvia and Gabrielle – your warmth and sincerity were truly appreciated. It was also great to see Councillors Borg and Truong in attendance, showing their support.
Feeling grateful to be part of such a diverse and inclusive community 💜✨

It’s been a busy yet productive weekend. Yesterday, Mum and I had the pleasure of meeting Mitch Tambo, whom we both deeply admire. Today, we attended the Lions Club of Taylors Lakes picnic, where we had a chance to speak with Alice Jordan-Baird - Labor for Gorton and Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah MP.
During our 30+ minute discussion, I raised key issues affecting Brimbank, including the lack of funding for disability inclusion, the State Parliamentary Petition for a "new specialist school" in Deer Park, limited social connection opportunities for LGBTQIA+ adults, and our strong opposition to Melbourne Airport’s third runway. Both Alice and Michelle were receptive to the issues we raised.
We urged them to increase funding for disability support organisations in the West (including GenWest), provide resources to Brimbank City Council for inclusion programs for disabled and queer adults, improve road infrastructure—particularly Taylors Lakes' notorious roundabouts—and collaborate across all levels of government to ensure our communities receive the necessary support to thrive.
I will never stop fighting for meaningful change in our community.
Last night was nothing short of magical at Brimbank's Writers & Readers Festival, with the incredible Kate Ceberano. Hearing her share her creative journey was inspiring, and her intimate performance was a sensory delight. The joyful connection between Kate and the AUSLAN interpreter during 'Pash,' brought a tear to my eyes. Seeing disability inclusion like that, was truly magical!
I had the privilege of asking Kate a meaningful question and sharing a childhood memory of seeing her perform when I was just 11. Meeting her for a book signing and photo was the perfect ending to an unforgettable night—one of the best Brimbank-hosted events I've ever attended.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful woman who gifted me a copy of Kate’s book. Your kindness left me speechless, and I’m still beaming. I don't know who you are, but if you're reading this and are open to it, I'd love to buy you a coffee!
Yesterday, I discovered that Brimbank Council planned to dissolve the Historical Advisory Committee (HAC), blaming poor attendance. What they didn’t mention is that Council frequently cancelled meetings with questionable excuses, such as entering caretaker mode (when meetings weren't scheduled during that time) or a chair's absence without appointing a replacement.
HAC members were outraged, especially since we weren’t informed of this decision. This month’s meeting was even cancelled under misleading pretences.
I quickly reached out to Councillors and to the Strategic Planning Co-Ordinator, before informing fellow HAC members. Huge thanks to Virginia Tachos for moving a motion to save the HAC and stepping up as chair, and to Cr Lucy Nguyen for agreeing to be second chair to prevent future cancellations.
We live in a remarkable part of the world, with one of the oldest Indigenous sites in the entire Country (Murrup Tamboore, around 31,000 years old) and one of the oldest towns in Victoria (Keilor, 1840s).
I’ll always fight to protect our heritage. Together, we must ensure our stories are never lost.

Photo 1: Keilor’s old iron bridge, also known as the basket bridge. The bridge has a curved iron arch spanning across the roadway. The bridge is flanked by stone pillars at its entrance, with railings running along both sides. Surrounding the bridge are open fields, sparse trees, and utility poles, suggesting a rural setting. A car is visible in the distance, driving across the bridge. The image is likely from early to mid-20th century.
Photo 2: Sunshine Bath at Sunshine State School. Children enjoy the pool, with some swimming in the water and others standing on the edge, wearing modest swimsuits typical of the early 20th century. The surrounding area is enclosed by a tall wooden fence, and a small changing area is visible in the background.
