If Zoom ends up crashing out of the market as a result of its horrible new AI training/anti-privacy policy, it will send a much needed message to all companies. Just because they *can* fuck shit up with AI, doesn't mean that it's useful, necessary, welcome, or other than a really stupid and obnoxious idea.

Anyway, alternatives exist. More soon, probably.

None of us should give in to the pressure to let big business steal our voices or faces.

Re previous boost: ARRRGGGHH. I use Zoom for organising readthroughs with friends. None of us are going to want to have anything to do with that bullshit. This is frustrating.

Would also like to know about good alternatives, in this case for calls for generally around 6-20 people, ideally with a similar text-based chat on the side (and bonus if auto-generated subtitles!).

Zoom have proven themselves to be a really dodgy company from using very weak encryption, to allowing anyone access to your microphone, to routing traffic through China (backdoored for the CCP ofc), and more. Removing criticism of themselves is just the latest in a long list of dodgy practices by a company which should be boycotted. #boycottzoom
