Books Received, February 1 to February 7, first four.
Six works new to me: 1 fantasy, 1 horror, 2 magazines, 1 roleplaying game (that looks like it should come with a restraining order), 1 science fiction, of which only one seems to be part of a series. Is the golden age of series books over? Probably not.

Why Won’t You Love Me? by Boop (February 2025)Senpai will be yours… no matter what.
In this chaotic micro tabletop game, you play as a yandere, who will
stop at nothing to make senpai notice you. Whether they like it or not,
you will spend your lives happily ever after together. Even if that means you need to do things you wouldn’t usually do.
Whether through sweet whispers, carefully planned “accidents,” or
eliminating the competition, your love story is one of passion,
deception, and just a little bit of murder.
Set up the perfect confession – The cherry blossoms
will swirl around you both as you hand over your love letter. Approach
Senpai at the Fireworks Festival with a sneaky kiss… The day is yours
to seize!
Sabotage your rivals - Stop those Senpai’s other admirers who are unworthy of
their love. You might have to improvise on the spot — but if there’s
food here, there’s a kitchen, and where there’s a kitchen, there’s
knives!
Win over Senpai — By any means possible. If that
means its only you and them left in this world, so be it. Just, try to
avoid (or defeat) law enforcement and others that get in your wayWith a very simple ruleset requiring only a d10, “Why won’t you love
me!?” lets you and your friends roleplay the classic trope all the way
to its dramatic conclusion.

Of Light and Shadow by Tanaz Bhathena (May 2023)
A standalone novel of magic, mayhem, love, and betrayal set in the Wrath of Ambar universe, this is the story of a bandit and a prince who change each other in unexpected ways. For readers of Sabaa Tahir and Marie Lu.
When they don’t give us our birthright, we steal it.
Roshan Chaya is out for justice. Abandoned by her parents at birth and adopted by the kingdom of Jwala’s most notorious bandit before his brutal murder, she is now leader of the Shadow Clan, a gang of farmers-turned-bandits impoverished by the provincial governor’s atrocities and corruption. Roshan’s goal: to avenge her adoptive father and earn back rights and dignity for her people.
Prince Navin has always felt like an outcast. Second in line for the throne, he has never been close to his grandmother, Queen Bhairavi of Jwala. When a night out drinking with friends leads to his capture by the infamous Shadow Clan, Navin schemes to befriend Roshan and use her as a means to escape. His ploy, however, brings Navin closer to the corruption and poverty at the heart of Roshan’s province, raising questions about its governor and Navin’s own family.
To further complicate things, the closer Roshan and Navin get, the harder it becomes to fight their growing attraction. But how can they trust each other when the world as they know it starts to fall apart?Set in a magical world inspired by the badlands of 17th century India, this standalone epic fantasy novel by Tanaz Bhathena is packed with political tensions, dangerous schemes, and swoon-worthy romance that asks the age old question: can love conquer all?
