This is a Blue Morpho Butterfly (Morpho peleides) The distinctive eye on the underside of its wings help to deter predators. When it wings are open, they reveal a striking, iridescent blue color upper side, but when closed (as this), the brown underside provides camouflage
They're native to Central and South American.
