Lately I’ve realized that most of the games that really keep my attention are text-based ones.
Right now my two favorites are EmpireMUD and Stellar Aeon.
EmpireMUD scratches the classic MUD itch: exploring, crafting, character progression, and a world that feels alive and constantly evolving. It’s the kind of game where I can log in, explore a bit, discover something new, and slowly build my character over time.
Stellar Aeon is very different but just as satisfying. It’s a text-driven space exploration and management game where you discover systems, expand influence, and watch a simulated universe unfold. It really hits that “systems interacting with systems” sweet spot that makes me want to keep experimenting.
I also enjoy incremental games (things like Cookie Clicker, Trimps, ComputeClicker, etc.), but lately a lot of them feel very similar once you’ve played a bunch. I still enjoy them, but they don’t hold my attention the same way they used to.
I’ve also looked at programming games and automation games, which seem like they should be perfect for me, but most of the ones I’ve found so far aren’t very accessible with screen readers.
For context: I’m totally blind and use a screen reader, so text-based games tend to work best for me.
Interestingly, a lot of audiogames actually don’t work well for me either, because many rely heavily on spatial audio or reaction timing.
I’m definitely open to games that normally rely on audio if they have mods or modes where most information is available in text.
Navigation can also be tricky. I can handle spatial navigation if a game provides helpful tools like:

  • coordinates
  • compass directions
  • map commands
  • “find” or “locate” commands
  • clear text descriptions of the environment

Some MUDs do this really well, but many games unfortunately don’t include those kinds of tools.
So I’m curious:
If you enjoy text-based games, MUDs, incremental games, simulation games, or anything similar, what are you playing these days?
I’m always interested in discovering new worlds to explore.

I was really fascinated when I first learned about the blind gaming community. Great to see whenever this topic gets more coverage, and the growing inclusivity within the industry.

"With an estimated 250 million gamers worldwide identifying as visually impaired, accessibility is both a major commercial opportunity and an essential industry priority."

Video games: Visually-impaired players call for better inclusion

A group made up of blind and partially sighted people say more needs to be done to make them feel included in gaming.

Is there any supernatural, horror themed, haunted house or castle or hell even a haunted farm would be enough. I always wished I could play online games. The completely being shut out of a really interesting thing, that catches my interested but because other people have decided how adaptations must be down, there’s a lot that goes into disabled folks not finding a job. Almost every blind person has their own interests, their own strength and sometimes even their weknesses. I know thy are adding to the new PlayStation maybe, a DVS track to help you know what’s going on.
Does it give you time to react by the time you’ve been notified of an impending bad guy? I”m fascinated. #BlindGamers #BlindGames Wish I’d gotten into them earlier.
🌙 Sleep-deprived thoughts...
After a night without sleep, some treadmill time, and lots of thinking, here’s a wild idea: could CS:GO ever be made accessible for blind players? 🎮🤔
It sounds far-fetched, I know, but hear me out. What if there were a mode or addon that used spatial audio to "ping" walls or obstacles (like a sonar effect) and distinct sound cues for player positions? It wouldn’t be the same as how sighted players experience it, but blind gamers have their own ways of navigating fast-paced games.
We already have some incredible audio-based games, and you wouldn’t believe the epic battles we’ve had—all sound, no visuals, just skill and spatial awareness. Making a game like CS:GO accessible might seem impossible, but with the right creativity, who knows?

🎮 Decided to dive into Naga in #Hearthstone #Battlegrounds today for the first time—I've always overlooked them. But wow, did they deliver! Pulled off a flawless first-place finish and completely changed my perspective on this tribe in Battlegrounds. 🐍✨
I’ll admit, I don’t usually follow popular strategies or meta tactics. Maybe that’s why I rarely break past 5000 MMR. But there’s something so satisfying about carving out my own path and winning through effort and experimentation—no deck trackers or cookie-cutter strategies here.
Also, a big shoutout to the Hearthstone Access team for making Battlegrounds accessible for visually impaired players. It’s amazing to see games becoming more inclusive and letting more people enjoy what they have to offer. 👏
