Botswana Baobabs by Night

"I spent 10 days travelling through Botswana, living out of my car and moving through remote desert landscapes in complete isolation, focused entirely on photographing the night sky. This location became the highlight of the trip: a small, ancient island rising from the middle of a vast salt pan."

I suppose eventually you get used to the spectacular sunsets, and just look on the ground for bugs to eat.

I have always had a special soft spot for #baobabs ever since reading 'Le Petit Prince' at school in England. Later, I lived in Tanzania, where they are as common as ash trees in England, and was delighted all over again. On long journeys, they were especially welcome in staving off boredom 😊

"#baobabs we see today all originated in #Madagascar. They started evolving to form the distinct species around 21 million years ago. Later, two of these species traveled to #Africa and #Australia before the lineages went #extinct in Madagascar."

There are eight species of baobab in the world, and they have a surprising distribution. Six are found in Madagascar, an island in the Indian Ocean; one is found on the continent of Africa; and the last is far away in Australia.

I'm a little late for #ThickTrunkTuesday, but hopefully these lovely baobab trees are of interest. The first picture has two warthogs and a leopard in it. Can you spot them?
