Fairchild Argus II This Fairchild monoplane was known as the Argus in British service, and was used by both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force during WW2. It is seen at the Yorkshire Air Museum in the colours of a RAF 'second line' WW2 aircraft, in that its undersurfaces are painted yellow, as were trainers, communications aircraft and other types. On the nose you can see the badge of the Air Transport Auxiliary, a civilian, but uniformed, body of men and women. The ATA were headquartered at White Waltham and flew operational aircraft from factories to storage facilities, training units and operational Squadrons. The Argus (and other types such as the DH89 Dragon Rapide and Avro Anson) operated a 'air taxi' service shuttling pilots around. #WW2 #SecondWorld War #FairchildArgus #YorkshireAirMuseum #Yorkshire #unitedkingdom #aircraft #avgeek #aviation #history #DragonRapide #FairchildArgus #AvroAnson #ATA #AirTransportAuxiliary #WhiteWaltham #avroAnson #DragonRapide #RoyalNavy #Fairchild

For the last decade this was my favourite regular at New Zealand airshows. One of a kind. I hope it finds another good home.
