Good morning Fedi friends. Well that was one warm night & one more hot day & night to go. It was 26c when I woke up just after 6am, opened up & turned off the aircon. It won’t be off for too long though as at 9am now it’s already hit 31c & will reach 43c as its last hurrah. So I’ll be shutting up again shortly & probably have the aircon fan on for a little while before I need it on cooling. I have my washing out & that won’t take long to dry & will do all my towels for the same reason after I’m showered & ready for my day.
I’ve found out what those little birds are that have been flitting around my garden at dawn. They’re New Holland Honeyeaters & very cute. There seems to be an awful lot of them around here atm.
Not going anywhere today, nor doing very much at all except for some general housework but that’s it for today really.

I was standing in the vegetable garden wondering if the spinach was ready for picking when I glanced left - and saw these two tiny New Holland Honeyeaters babies looking at me.

Too new to the world to be frightened of me, they just sat there while i took this photo.

I was doing a bit of a walk today and I could hear the #corellas before I could see them because it was so bright out and a lot of them were hidden. Noisy buggers when there's a big flock. I looked straight up and found this trio just sitting close together. The right one started to groom the middle one after a bit of cuddles. Very cute.

@lunalein @bookstodon For nonfiction, my favorite Aussie book is Where Song Began by Tim Low. So much writing about birds is focused on the northern hemisphere that it was great to read about all the wonders of Australian birds. They buck a number of trends and have some unique qualities.

@tessa_murray Thank you so much for that picture! I became a birder when I lived in Australia, and I miss all my starter birds so much now that I'm no longer there. Rainbow Bee-eaters and Willy Wagtails were some of my favorites.

Just saw one of our local Kookaburras, the one I often take pics of, beating a baby bird to death in a tree in the backyard.

Then he and his mate sat on my lawn with its remains to picnic.
